Biomass and Cultural Landscape Development

This interdisciplinary team addresses the integration of biomass into the regional portfolio of renewable energies. Within rational boundaries material flows will be elaborated, which combine the utilization of cultivated biomass (forestry, gardening et al.), biomass residues (lop) and residues from commercial sources (material and energetic cascade utilization).

Fundamental consideration will be given to high resource efficiency that simultaneously combines regional added value with social ownership and ecological diversity. The integration of various types of utilization (energy generation, food production, environmental protection) in the same area is one essential goal of a regionally integrated management of cultural landscapes.

Thereby an approach towards cultural landscape management is developed that allows innovations and secures an economically sustainable balance between biotic and abiotic resource protection.
