Material Flow Management and Zero Emission Concepts

The department of Material Flow Management (MFM) and Zero Emission (ZE) Concepts promotes the development, practical application and assessment of corresponding management tools and concepts. These tools fulfill trans-sectoral functions when conducting MFM and ZE projects in communities and regions.

Interfaces between various sectors and action fields are assessed, conflict and synergy potentials are visualized and innovative measures and strategies for the holistic implementation of MFM are developed. Additionally, the unit addresses the comprehensive analysis and assessment of outcomes and possible side effects.

First, regional energy and CO2 footprints visualize the local contributions to climate protection goals. Secondly, local value-creation studies analyze the socio-economic effects of MFM, such as increased local profits and local employment raised. The transparency of these results contributes to the advocacy work of communal and regional decision makers.

Building on such experiences, further strategic policy proposals for the implementation, promotion and multiplication of MFM and ZE projects are provided for state and national ministries.
