Govindas Manufacture GmbH and IfaS – TUAS Project Managers Participate in the LCA–Care Consortium Meeting in Salamanca
Wilhelm Kinn, CEO of Govindas Manufaktur GmbH, together with Navoda Senanayake and Jackeline Martínez, Project Managers from the Institute for Applied Material Flow Management (IfaS) at the Trier University of Applied Sciences (TUAS), participated in the fourth in-person consortium meeting of the European LCA Care project. The meeting was hosted by the University of Salamanca (USAL) in Spain from 3 to 5 February 2026.
The event brought together approximately 25 participants representing project partners from academia and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the agri-food sector. Participating organizations came from Bulgaria, Spain, Lithuania, Portugal, and Germany, strengthening transnational collaboration within the consortium.
The central objective of the LCA Care project, which is coordinated by ISEC from Portugal and co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, is to provide agri-food companies with the skills required to measure and reduce their environmental impact through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The project combines applied digital tools with training approaches, including micro-credentials, to strengthen the capacities of SMEs.
Participants had the opportunity to visit the company “La Flor de Santa Teresa” in Ávila, one of the companies associated with Avilagro. The company specializes in the production of traditional sweets from the region.
As a strategic project partner, TUAS provided technical expertise to validate the LCA Care digital platform. This cloud-based application is designed to enable small and medium-sized enterprises to independently assess their carbon footprint impacts. The discussions focused on optimizing the tool’s functionality, data interoperability, and user workflows, intending to ensure its robustness for deployment by SMEs across diverse agro-industrial perspectives.
In addition to technical development, the consortium achieved progress in the design of training courses and micro-credentials, led by USAL. The courses are focused on delivering agile, practice-oriented advanced education in Life Cycle Assessment, eco-innovation and sustainability management for representatives of SMEs in the agri-food sector. These learning formats are intended to support the long-term capacity building and skills development across the European agri-food sector.
