On the 13th and 14th of March, a delegation from the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) visited the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld to meet with Professor Peter Heck, Director of the Institute for Applied Material Flow Management (IfaS), and his team to discuss the Sahara Renaissance Project (SAREP).
The DIHK delegation included Dr. Sebastian Bolay, Head of the Energy, Environment and Industry Division; Dr. Ulrike Beland, Director for Economic Aspects of Energy and Climate Policy; and Christoph Petri, Policy Advisor for Circular Economy, Environmental and Raw Materials Policy.
The meeting focused on presenting the objectives and innovative approach of the Sahara Renaissance Project, as well as exploring opportunities for potential collaboration between DIHK and the SAREP initiative. Discussions also served to prepare for the participation of Professor Heck and his team in the upcoming DIHK Energy Conference 2026, which will take place on 14 April in Berlin.
